Checklist to Install a New Door

Whether you are looking to increase your home’s curb appeal, looking to add security to your home, or you are looking to increase your home’s energy efficiency, choosing to install a new door can be an easy upgrade to any home. From wood doors to doors with glass panes, replacing an old worn out door is a cost effective way to upgrade your home’s look and feel.

    Install a New Door

A solid wood door may be easy to install if it is a prehung door. You just have to make sure you have the right tools. Double and triple check as you are installing that it is level and plumb.

If you are installing a door that has glass panels, this can be a little more precarious. This is because the glass may easily be broken if the door is not handled properly. The door may also be heavier. If you are looking for a full glass door such as a sliding door leading out to your back yard or you are looking for a wood door with glass panels, you may want to hire an expert to help you install the door.

The time it takes to install a new door will depend on what experience you have and what type of door you are installing. A pre-hung door can take anywhere from 2-6 hours to install. A glass patio door may take twice as long and you will need a lot of muscle to help hold it in place while you install it.
